Be Good Be Social; Scottish charities gather to change the world with social media

On April 7th 2011 Scottish charities are once again set to come together to deliberate on how to change the world using social media. It may sound like a lofty task but that’s exactly what Be Good Be Social attendees are hoping to achieve - from local community groups to international development bodies.

Following on from the success of the first Be Good Be Social, which included groundbreaking ideas from Oxfam Scotland and OneKind as well as hands on workshops from MyPolice and fundraising consultant Steve Bridger, the second event has a ‘Big Society’ theme.

This is a chance for charities, non-profits and social entrepreneurs to get together to share ideas about how to make the world a better place using social media tools like twitter, facebook, youtube and blogging. This isn't just marketing - it's about bringing people together in online spaces to make a real difference.

Some people are worried about the technology element of social media, but that's really not what's important. We're interested in looking at how we can use the internet to give people a voice.

The April event will see Rob Dyson of Whizz-Kidz headlining with an open discussion about communicating in a ‘Big Society’. There will also be presentations and workshops from Marc Bowker of Quarriers, Sara Thomas of MND Scotland and Rob McAllen of Blackbaud Europe.

Tickets for the event are free to charities, social enterprises and non-profits and can be
booked at www.begoodbesocial.org.uk .
